Martina Juncadella (1992) is a director, screenwriter, and poet, born in Buenos Aires.
They began acting at an early age, with an extensive trajectory in film and theatre. This experience continues to inform their work as a director.
Martina studied Literature at the University of Buenos Aires, specializing in Literary Theory, and has since developed a practice that moves between filmmaking and writing. They lead writing workshops and take part in various spaces dedicated to literary experimentation and education. As a poet, Martina has published 8 poemas (2015), Prendan el horno (2018), and Punto ciego (2024). Since 2016, they have co-directed the publishing house Socios Fundadores.
In 2016, Martina attended the documentary filmmaking workshop led by Andrés Di Tella at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, where they made their first audiovisual works. Their short film Fiora (2017), co-directed with Martín Vilela, received the Best Short Film award at BAFICI and was selected for festivals including San Sebastián and Zinebi. They went on to direct No me imagino siendo vieja (2018), which premiered at BAFICI and Biarritz Amérique Latine, where Martina was awarded a residency to develop their first feature film. In 2024, Sueños, fiestas, realidad, co-directed with Jacqueline Golbert, premiered in the Official Competition of the Asterisco Festival.
Alongside directing, Martina works as a screenwriter and has collaborated on projects including Errante corazón (dir. Leonardo Brzezicki). During 2022, Martina created the video opera La contracción de la espera together with Simón Pérez and Miguel Garutti, in collaboration with the Centro de Experimentación del Teatro Colón. Martina wrote and directed the piece, while Pérez and Garutti created its sound design and musical composition. It premiered as part of the Fantasía y Abstracción series. En paralelo, trabaja como guionista y ha colaborado en proyectos como Errante corazón (dir. Leonardo Brzezicki). En 2022 dirigió, montó y produjo la video ópera La contracción de la espera, producida junto al Centro de Experimentación del Teatro Colón y estrenada en el ciclo Fantasía y Abstracción.
Their debut feature, Adentro del ruido, was developed through programs including Ikusmira Berriak and the Raymundo Gleyzer Film Workshop (INCAA), and received support from the Hubert Bals Fund and the ArteKino Prize. The film is currently in post-production.
Together with their sisters, Martina founded Una Presencia, an audiovisual production company supporting projects through development, production, and distribution.
They are currently working on their second fiction feature and a book of prose poetry.
